The Mott Street Poker Club

The Mott Street Poker Club is an unsigned book that was first published in 1888. Historians have attributed
the book to Alfred Trumble. Little is known of the author beyond the fact that he wrote many unsigned pieces for Fox's "Police
Gazette." The present work, which depicts a poker club in New York's Chinatown, is of interest to collectors of gambling paraphernalia
and ethnic Orientalia.
The exceptionally rare first edition of The Mott Street Poker Club was published by White & Allen in New
York. Other editions were published in 1889, but to the best of our knowledge they all bear the 1888 date on the cover. This is probably
due to the fact that the date is hand illustrated.

The illustrations were done by Michael Woolf. There are a total of twelve illustrations, plus cover. His stylized signature
appears on the cover, drawin in at the side of the table.
